This morning was our first play date with the girls. Sophia's group was walking back to the building as we came around the corner. She saw us about the same time as we saw her. She came running at us smiling saying "momma, momma". We followed her group inside since we were not sure what the careworkers expected and we are still being 'sized up'. We waited as they had her wash up and then they asked (via gestures) if she could eat first. We agreed and then watched as they served her... I do not think she took time to breathe! She gulped down her drink and came back to us. We were in the 'entrance/mud room' of the groups area.. this is where we met her yesterday. She sat down and padded the seat for us to join her. We did for a minute and then made a call for translation to see where we could go! After finding out the 'rules' so we wouldn't break them without knowing, we went down the hall for Anastasia. She was also served and she finished at record speed as well. We all went outside to play. I was afraid it would be hard to 'entertain' them for 2 hours with a communication barrier, but the time was gone before we knew it. We first found a place to just sit with them. They both wanted to be held so we just did that for a while. Held, hugged, kissed, reassured. We noticed Sophia is a little territorial over me and Anastasia is seeking out Tim more at this point. They are having to get used to each other as well right now and not really wanting to share us. I was holding Sophia and reached over to rub Anastasia's arm... Sophia moved my arm back to be hugging her! Anastasia did the same thing to Tim! That is fine... they deserve some one on one for now! They led us into another building. We tried to steer them away, but they kept on. A worker standing nearby gestured it was ok so we finally allowed them to take us. We ended up in a room that must serve as a music/entertainment room. There were little stadium type seating in the room and Sophia sat down and gestured for us to do the same. So we sat in there for a bit. We were wondering what was going through their minds. Were they expecting something? A music class? A performance? We don't know for sure what normally happens in that room, but it appeared to be one of their favorite places. Sophia finally let us lead them back to the playground. We noticed her group was out playing and we saw a 'look' from a worker. We figured she was looking to see where Sophia's hat had gone and why we didn't have it on her head. Anastasia had claimed it! We decided we better get them back to the condition that we received them so we put Anastasia's bow back in her hair and returned Sophia's hat to her. We found a bench out of the direct view of the other children and let the girls have a drink box. We let them have their photo albums and went through them with the girls before returning them to their groups. We noticed a couple of things about the girls. One thing: They were both covered in bite marks that weren't there yesterday. Anastasia had bug bites on her that were swollen, red and itching. Sophia had about 3 new bites as well, but her's had the distinct look of children's teeth! Two: Sophia is a social butterfly. Everyone that came by seemed to know her and she would talk to them all. Three: Sophia seems 'girly' where Anastasia seems like she is going to be into everything!

What a wonderful time is sounds like, those are memories that you, Tim and the girls will never forget. When will you get to take them with you? Did they like the pictures of Courtney, Shelby, Abby & Romney? Do they know that they have a large family to come back to? They sound so sweet and we can't wait to meet them.

Alicia, they were in different groups. They may have had contact in the past, but it doesn't seem like it too much to us. They are getting better about sharing us. They shared crayons yesterday and will sit beside each other... I think they are doing pretty good!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that red hair! Sounds like things are going pretty well with both girls! Praying you home soon!
