A rose by any other name...
The topic of names has come up so many times on RR and I'm sure every other adoption blog out there. There are different opinions and I'm not about to debate what is the right choice. I feel it is a personal decision and the situations are all unique. For us though... we are lucky. We had been told our girls legal names a while back while we were debating the whole name thing. We had already decided that we would try to keep their names if they weren't too odd, too hard to pronounce, etc. Neither of our girls 'go' by there names... only nicknames. We are going to ween the nicknames over time while introducing the legal name. We will develop our own nicknames over time. Well.. Sophia and Anastasia are beautiful names, we can say them and spell them without having to look! :) So the names we have choosen to use are Sophia Grace and Anastasia Faith. I love the meanings on babynamer.com (very positive meanings). Sophia - "Wisdom", Grace - "Love and protection of God, unmerited favor." Anastasia - "Resurrection", Faith - "Abiding Trust". We feel these meanings apply for our girls and our journey to bring them home. Oh... and the name of the blog? "Our little sunbeams"... well, we had been told they were at the "Solnishko" ("Sonechko" - Ukr.) orphanage. This means "Sun". :) I liked the poem "It's up to you" (see right side of blog)... they do light up a room! :)

Beautiful names for 2 beutiful girls!!!
ReplyDeletewant to hear something kind of crazy? our little ones name is to be Sophie Anastasia. we had planned to call her Ana but husband decided she just looks like a sophie. so she is sophie ana. Ethan is Ethan sergey and Ben will be Benjamin Artem. so they all keep their given name for middle names. Anastasia has to be one of my favorite names it just sings beauty when you say it(at least to me) Our dossier is in country finally! so hoping to hear something soon!!
